The West Cork Tourism organisation was set up in the eighties and consists of representation from the tourism industry together with representatives from statutory organisations e.g. Cork / Kerry Tourism, Bord Fáilte, Cork County Council and West Cork LEADER Co-op. From a small base it has grown and grown and has contributed significantly to the local West Cork Community through its promotional work and marketing. West Cork Tourism is solely community based, has one full time employee, 400 participants, and a very busy office in Skibbereen. Its activities, since its foundation have contributed to greater awareness of West Cork as a destination all year round.

The nerve centre office in Skibbereen provides an invaluable tourism information service, as well as planning and organising the many activities. Attendance at the major shows and instore promotions has resulted in increased visitors to West Cork.
